Learning at Home
Learning at home at Lyndhurst Infant School
These are the expectations/guidance for each year group, however this may vary depending on individual needs of specific children.
Year R – approximately 10 minutes each day
- Reading: We encourage children to read daily however please aim for AT LEAST 4 times per week. If your child is feeling tired, then reading a book to them will also develop their Literacy skills.
- Phonics: Every week your child will bring home a phonic game. This comes home for them to learn and they will be moved on when they are ready for the next set.
- Activity packs: Your child will be given one of the following activity packs: A Maths Pack, a Chatter Pack or an Experience Pack. These are full of activities and ideas that we would like you to do at home with your child. They will be changed regularly in school to ensure a range of activities are being covered by all children.
Key Stage 1 – approximately 15 minutes each day
- Reading: We encourage children to read daily however please aim for AT LEAST 4 times per week. All KS1 classes have a Read-O-Meter, so please sign their contact book when you have read at home to support the class in reaching 100 reads first!
- Spellings and Phonics: Every fortnight your child will have a set of spellings to learn and/or the phonic sounds being covered in school. Please help them to practise them at home. They will be given out and tested on Fridays.
- Maths: Each fortnight your child will have new maths homework tasks set in their maths homework book. Year 1 children are expected to do Tasks A and B and Year 2 are expected to do Tasks B and C unless stated differently in their book. The date it is due back in school is given, ready for the next tasks to be set.
- Topic: Sometimes we will send home a topic related challenge or research to support what we are learning in class. Please make sure that you return these on the date set as the children will need them for their lessons.
