Reading with Dogs

We are currently working with a "Dogs as therapy" volunteer (Sylvia) and her dog Dylan.  Some children in Year 1 have the opportunity to read their book to Dylan (and Mrs Davy) each week.

Summer Term 2017 - A Blast from the Past!

This half term the Year 1 children will kick start their new topic by learning about the life of Queen Elizabeth II, including important events such as the coronation.
They will then move back in time to explore what life was like for children during the reign of Queen Victoria.  They will visit The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum to experience Victorian cooking and Household chores.  Then we will be exploring the work of Victorian artist William Morris and using press printing to create their own repeating pattern design.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who recently attended the Year 1 phonic meeting. We hope you found it useful. Please click here to view the presentation shared at the meeting. Here is a copy of the 'Sound Families' mat, showing all the main sound/spelling patterns that Year 1 children should recognise and be able to read as part of a word. You can find a list of useful phonic games and apps in the 'Curriculum' - 'English' section of the website. Don't forget to use your child's Bug Club login (in their Reading Contact book) to find phonic books and games to play!

Spring term 2016

Welcome to Superhero School!

Year 1 received a very important video message from Metal Man, revealing that their teachers are superheroes! He sent each class a box of top secret superhero information to help them research and train to be heroes!

Metal Man will be back in touch soon! In the meantime, you can click here to view our topic newsletter.

This half term our topic is  'Toy Story'

Here is our topic newsletter.

The children will be starting our topic with a visit from a very special guest who needs our help to solve a problem! Come back soon for more updates!

Autumn 1 2015 -  'A Walk in the Woods'

Click here to view our topic newsletter.

The children started the topic by reading The Tin Forest by Helen Ward. Each class recieved a very special gift...

The animals were made out of junk materials; just like the story! In the outside area the children have been busy making their own junk forests, gardens and animals.

We also visited a real forest and spent a very busy day making dens, identifying the trees and plants and creating land art sculptures based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
